Energy Saving Illumination with Smart Motion Light Switch

Smart road illumination control system turns on street lights but only several lighting columns ahead of an approaching vehicle instead of having the lights on permanently. Using this kind of motion light switch improves energy saving on roads where vehicles appear rarely. The system is based on NanoPulse motion detectors which are mounted on each lighting pole, switching the light on when an approaching vehicle becomes visible. After the vehicle passes the lighting pole, with a motion light switch connected to it, turns off immediately.

UWB technology developed by NanoPulse can be used for meeting the following challenges: (Or solving the following problems)

 

  • Creation of a high-accuracy traffic counter, capable of counting the number of vehicles passing a control point on each lane, even with a minimum distance between them.
  • Detection of the vehicle course.
  • Detection of the vehicle velocity.
  • Identification of the vehicle type: car, truck, etc.
  • Precise (20 cm accuracy) determination of the moment when a vehicle crosses a certain boundary on the road (the place and time will be recorded). Photo recording system with the long-focal high-aperture optics (for low illumination conditions) and small focus depth will be enabled and controlled by the sensor device, such as a vehicle traffic counter.
  • Determination of a traffic light offence, i.e. photo recording of vehicles passing over the prescribed white line while the traffic light is red. Unlike typical optical sensors, NanoPulse sensors will work at night as well.

 

All previously mentioned solutions, enable measurements of traffic flux density which provides the opportunity to perform optimal planning of traffic conditions at different road sections and organize traffic more effectively.

Railroad Safety Equipment and Monitoring System

The main purpose of this system is for the detection of foreign objects on railway tracks in tunnels or underground. This railroad safety equipment is mounted below the carriage floor and performs continuous inspection of the railway track during the train’s movement. If a difference is detected from the previous inspection at any point by the sensors, the coordinates of the event are logged for further detailed inspection by a railway track maintenance service.

The system is currently at the R&D stage and its development will only be possible with a partner organization that is familiar with the inspection procedure, as well as with the necessary requirements of railroad safety equipment, and a company which can help to organize real time tests. At present, NanoPulse is looking for such a partner.
