NP SU 6.1 Breathing Sensor - Baby Sleep Guard

Designed to improve the safety of your baby, Baby Sleep Guard is a remote baby breathing and movement monitor which is designed for monitoring the status of newborns, infants and small children while they are sleeping. Sound, movement, breathing and pulse, are all monitored, which make the Baby Sleep Guard different from video baby monitors. It is also one of the best baby monitors to help avoid sleep apnea and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Unlike the Angelcare monitor or similar baby safety monitors the Baby Sleep Guard does not require a direct sensor pad under the mattress. Instead, the device consists of a battery powered sensor unit mounted on the cot wall, which collects data and performs all the necessary calculations. These are sent via radio link to the parent unit.  A smart phone with the appropriate mobile software application can operate as the parent unit. The sleep log is recorded on an SD card and can be reviewed later by parents themselves or by a doctor in a sleep clinic.

How does a baby breathing monitor or baby safety monitor differ from a video baby monitor?

Young parents prefer to buy video baby monitors thinking that it will give them confidence when they see the baby on the screen of the parent unit. Many people think, 'seeing is believing,' and this is true to some degree. However video baby monitors are not sensitive enough to sense your baby’s breathing and they cannot tell you anything about the respiration patterns of your child. These patterns can describe the condition of your baby much better than a video image, especially during sleep when your baby doesn’t move much. What can you say about your baby when you see it on your screen sleeping and not moving? Does (s)he feel well, does (s)he breath, is (s)he still alive? The baby breathing monitor is the only type of baby safety monitors that gives you a sufficient level of awareness about your baby’s health. Video baby monitors are good, but a baby breathing monitor is better!

Most common scenarios when Baby Sleep Guard helps:

  1. Are you a parent? Have you ever woken up in the night worried about whether your baby is breathing in the cot or not? Baby Sleep Guard makes you aware!
  2. Have you heard about sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS? One preventative method is careful monitoring! Quick reaction time is vital. Baby Sleep Guard alarms sound when there are problems with breathing (fast, slow or held).
  3. Do you want to know exactly when your baby wakes up? Usually babies start moving before making sounds. A Baby Sleep Guard alerts you when it detects motion. You may keep the baby sleeping longer or prevent anxiety your baby may feel waking up alone.
  4. Do you want to see how your baby sleeps during the night? Studying the sleep log will give you an understanding about events during sleep. This helps you making the right decision and prevent SIDS.

Advantages of the baby breathing and movement monitor:

  • mother is always aware of how the baby is sleeping;
  • mother comes to the cot before the baby is fully awake;
  • sleeping time of the baby is extended;
  • the baby is not anxious after waking up alone;
  • level of anxiety and stress is lowered;
  • risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is lowered:

Baby Sleep Guard can recognize the following conditions of the baby:

Sleeping - the baby lies calmly in the cot. At this time the sensor unit is counting its respiration rate. Under favorable conditions the sensor unit is also counting the pulse of the baby. When the baby starts moving and does so for a minute or longer, parents can see those results on the screen of the parent unit.
Awake - motion of high amplitude is detected for a period of one minute or longer.
Sound - this functions like a regular baby sound monitor - signaling when the baby makes sound.
Alarm - no movements and respiration for at least 30 seconds or respiration rate is outside predefined normal range.

Parent Unit has the following alarm types:

  • highlighting the screen and showing baby's current condition (always enabled);
  • single tone signal (can be disabled by the user);
  • vibration (can be disabled by the user).

Easy Sensor Unit installation:

The Baby Sleep Guard is wireless: you simply install the sensor unit nearby the baby (hang on the cot edge), push the button and processed data will be transferred to your parent unit or smart phone.

Specification of the Sensor Unit:

  • respiration rate: 30 - 60 breathes per minute;
  • pulse rate: 70 - 300 beats per minute;
  • position of the sensor unit: 40 - 100 cm above or below the cot surface;
